![]() It’s harder to stand up for people, primarily because people (unlike the Nature) are oftentimes the ones to blame for their own troubles and misfortunes. Michael was black who turned himself into a ‘White’ through surgeries due to racial discrimination in the United States of America, portrays beautifully in the video that ‘The White’ has enough power to control ‘Blacks’ without using modern age weapons but he can control them only with a ‘Stick’ in his hands in the prison video. They have the power to control ‘Black Bodies’ and to control the whole world. The ‘White’ men are described as not only superior but the oppressors too. The element of racism can also be found not only in the both of Michael’s video’s but also in the controversial lyrics. The post-Colonial elements which are used in the song and in its two videos are given below. The struggle for ethnic, cultural, and political autonomyĪ growing awareness of cultural overlap and hybridity Post-colonialism, as both a body of theory and a study of political and cultural change, has gone and continues to go through three broad stages:Īn initial awareness of the social, psychological, and cultural inferiority enforced by being in a colonized state It is concerned with both how European nations conquered and controlled "Third World" cultures and how these groups have since responded to and resisted those encroachments. Post-Colonialism is referred to as a study of the effects of colonialism on cultures and societies. They don’t really care about us Some things in life they just don’t wanna seeĭon’t you wrong or right me Post-Colonial elements You can never get me All I wanna say is that He wouldn’t let this be, no, no Skin head, dead head I can’t believe this is the land from which I came They’re throwing me in a class with a bad name Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now They don’t really care about us Tell me what has become of my rights ![]() Throw your brother in jail All I wanna say is that I have a wife and two children who love me They don’t really care about us Tell me what has become of my life They don’t really care about us Beat me, hate meĭon’t you black or white me All I wanna say is that Lyrics: “They Don’t Really Care About Us” Skin head, dead headĮverybody’s gone mad All I wanna say is that In a fear based reality people don’t trust each other and the enemy comes from within not outside. Gandhi made that clear that empire always fall. Fear or negativity is a destructive force and eventually implodes. Why is love strong? It links us to our true nature it is a creative force that is expansive and builds unity. The use of fear as control can be perceived as power but in reality it is not as powerful as love. We have seen it as an old order that is losing traction and indeed, power. Those who seek control are deeply fearful of the masses as the real illusion is that control is power. When there is a desire for control then there is definitely fear of no control. In an interview he said that he was speaking of his own experience’s built on fear. He makes reference to Roosevelt and Martin Luther King in the song as respected figures who would not allow oppression or any sort of discrimination. The central theme appears to be oppression and racism. The interesting question is who are ‘They’? In the Brazilian film clip I found the peace symbol on his t-shirt interesting but in the end it was torn. One was sited in a prison and the other video was produced in Brazil, South America. He has sung the same song in two video clips in 1997. The whole power construct is built on fear. Even the word ‘threat’ is really unquestioned thinking from those who feel fear of losing power. I might just pause and think what does political mean? Probably it means that he challenged the power, it doesn’t mean he was seeking to take power as a threat to those in power, but his threat would have been his enormous influence on young generation. I remember thinking again and again at that time ‘I didn’t know the meaning and lyrics of the song but continue listening it on regular basics’. ![]() I remember hearing it years ago and realising that Michael Jackson was political. This is an interesting song by Michael Jackson entitled ‘They Don’t Care About Us’.
